THE BORGEN PROJECT  •  COMEBACK RUNATHON BIB 14769
Live fundraiser  ·  every metre counts

I haven't run
in 5 years.
Sponsor the comeback.

I'm lacing up for a one-person runathon — 1¢ (CAD) pledged for every metre you fund — to raise money for The Borgen Project, which lobbies U.S. policymakers to fund and protect programs that fight global poverty. The cardio will be rough. The cause won't be.

Why I'm doing this the hard way

Let's be honest about the starting line: it has been at least five years since I last ran with any kind of seriousness. The last "training plan" I had was probably a group chat saying "let's go for a jog" that nobody followed through on.

So instead of pretending this will be easy, I'm putting a price on every metre and asking you to come along for the discomfort.

The structure is simple: I run, and for every metre I cover, $0.01 goes toward The Borgen Project's work. No metre is too small to count, and no donation is too small to matter. My out-of-shape lungs and your spare change are about to do something genuinely useful together.

Charles riding past the Tour de l'Île de Montréal start arch, thumbs up — proof he's still up for a physical challenge, even if running is a different muscle group entirely.

How the pledge works

I run, GPS tracks it

Every training run and the final event get logged. Distance is the only metric that matters here — pace is not invited to this conversation.

$0.01 × every metre

At this rate, $10 CAD becomes 1 km, $25 CAD becomes 2.5 km, and $50 CAD becomes 5 km of running toward the cause. It adds up faster than my cardiovascular endurance will.

Funds go to Borgen

Every dollar pledged goes directly to The Borgen Project's advocacy work cutting global poverty through U.S. policy.

Where the money actually goes

The Borgen Project is a nonprofit that advocates with U.S. legislators to support policies and foreign assistance programs aimed at ending global poverty — the kind of structural change that no amount of direct aid alone can achieve. It's policy work, not photo-op work, which is exactly why it needs people willing to do something a little uncomfortable to get attention pointed at it. Learn more at borgenproject.org.

Finish line

Put your money on a guy
who hasn't run since 2021

It's a low bar, which means high comedic upside and genuine impact either way. Give any amount — every cent in CAD converts directly into metres I owe this campaign.

Distance to run and distance already run

This fundraiser runs on a clear rule: every cent donated in CAD equals one metre I have to run. The counters below show what your donations add up to, and how much of that distance has already been covered.
